E-commerce Success Series, Part 1: Your Facebook shop

Alex Moura Co-Founder and CEO of Digital Star Marketing

Putting your album cover on a T-shirt is the easy part. Selling it online is the work.

Fans are on their phones. A Facebook Commerce Shop sells your music and merch on Facebook and Instagram from one setup.

Why should a musician bother with a Facebook shop?

Reach, first. Facebook has billions of users, and your shop shows up on Instagram too.

Fans also buy without leaving the app. They hear the song, see the shirt and check out in the same place. Fewer steps mean more sales.

And Facebook’s ad targeting lets you put each product in front of the fans most likely to want it.

How do you set it up?

  1. Start with a business page. If your music or band doesn’t have its own page yet, make one. That page is your storefront and the place fans find you.
  2. Open Commerce Manager. It’s in your business settings. This is where you run the shop.
  3. Choose checkout, returns and payouts. Decide whether fans check out on Facebook or on your own website. Then set your return policy and how you get paid.
  4. Add your products. Use good photos, clear descriptions and prices, plus options like size or color. Group products so fans can browse them easily.
  5. Make it look like your band. A punk band’s shop and a smooth jazz act’s shop shouldn’t look the same. Let your style show.
  6. Publish, then watch the numbers. Once the shop is live, check Facebook’s analytics to see how fans respond.

This week, open Commerce Manager and get the shop live. Set it up before your next release, not after.

Next: Part 2, selling merch on Spotify.
